Waterloo Road

Waterloo road is a TV drama about a challenging school in England. In series 7, episode 13 various camera angles are shown such as a shot reverse shot at 1 minute and 13 seconds, this shot is used to show who the dialogue is being exchanged with, in the shot one of the men is is sharing his opinion whilst the other disagrees, by showing a shot/reverse shot the viewer can see the expression on both faces but mainly the one being spoken too.
At 01:49 A tracking shot is used to show a car being driven quite fast, a tracking shot follows the object that is moving yet showing the scenery also.
At 04:32 a close up is used on one of the teachers faces to show their emotion which is anger toward another staff member. At 06:20 a match on action shot is used this is to show a student walking toward the stairs of his front then him going down the stairs showing his back. At 16:29 the scene is in the staff room showing the majority of the teachers, showing that they are relaxing, this is to show more of the room but keeping the main characters within the scene. A two shot is shown at 18:53 to show both characters emotions on their faces because both people are worried about the same situation but in two different point of view.

  1. You have accurately identified a variety of shot types in the episode and have begun to discuss the purpose of these shots e.g close ups denoting the emotional expression on the actors face.
I would like to see you developing these observations to include media language more regularly as the current analysis for each shot is quite short. Look back at the technical terms we have covered in this term; how can you incorporate micro analysis to support your observations?

In future, you may find it usefull to use www.slideshare.com to upload words documents and powerpoints which you can then embed into your blog.
