Why is sound important to TV Drama? AS Media

Sound itself is important in life, it demonstrates behaviours, a way of communication, it protects us from the dangers surrounding us, gives us a diverse amount of entertainment and helps us understand life itself.

Sound is important in TV drama because the whole point of a drama is to relate to their audience and to over-exaggerate life. In order to do both, TV Dramas genuinely use Diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

In a scene where an emotional realistic story is occurring with a narrator speaking non-diegetic sound is used to make the scene seem more emotional. A scene where a car chase and a crash has occurred sound effects will be used to over-exaggerate the scene in this scene diegetic sound is used.

  1. Is sound always used to 'over-exagerate' or can it help to create a sense of realism?

A good introduction but far too short as a whole, you need to explain your point. What is diegetic and non-diegetic sound? How does non-diegetic sound make a scene more emotional? What is the non-diegetic sound you are referring to? Can you relate this to any examples we have looked at in class?
